Almost 10 years after the start of a major economic and financial crises experienced by modern society, it is failed the dream of an infinite growth and the promise of prosperity for all, and we can’t see some signs of a positive evolution yet. A lot of data show an increase of poverty, inequality (both within countries and between different countries) and social vulnerability, accompanied by the government inability to cope with them through welfare state. In an attempt to overcome this difficult situation, this article offers some necessary and essential reflections for activating alternative project to ensure social cohesion. In particular about the need of: 1. a strong alternative theoretical framework respect to the dominant thought; 2. a direct involvement of people through a real assumption of responsibility; 3. a model of welfare organization compatible with the scarce resources available.
